Ethan Holmes MDIA 1380 Fox 13 News I decided to do research on Fox 13 News because I am from Salt Lake City so I was raised off of Fox 13. KSTU is located in Salt Lake City right next to the Salt Lake Airport; which first opened up on October 9 th , 1979. While I was doing my research on KSTU I found out that it was the first independent station to open up in Utah at its time. Before it was channel 13 it started off on dial 20. The news would follow the top shows at the time Star Trek: The Next Generation and Cheers . KSTU had the opportunity to switch from dial 20 to dial 13 in 1989, which was the last available channel at the time, giving it the campaign name “Lucky 13”.
